Centralia offers cultural
amenities usually only found in larger communities.
 |
The community is continually enriched
by the Centralia
Cultural Society, established in 1961.
The society's mission is to connect the arts with the
community through appreciation, education, exhibition,
and performance.
- The Little Theatre Players present
at least 4 musicals or plays annually.
- The Choral Society performs
a wide range of music including religious, classical,
and contemporary selections, including a concert
with the Philharmonic Orchestra during the holiday
season.
- The 50 member Philharmonic
Orchestra is one of the oldest orchestras
in southern Illinois. Something for everyone including
classical music, pops concerts, outdoor concerts
with fireworks and holiday concerts.
- The Palette and Brush
Club/Light and Lens Club holds annual
art shows as well as sponsoring art classes.
|
| The Centralia Area Historical Museum celebrates
the history of the area, featuring exhibits of the railroad
era, coal mining, the oil boom, and famous sports figures
from the area. The Centralia Historical Society, established
in 1998, offers monthly programs that include regional
speakers, special exhibits, heritage events and even
a secret garden tour. |
